With the easy access of the Internet, TV and other forms of media, every day we witness new talents springing from different parts of the world and instantly getting famous. It gives us the impression as long as we reach the highest note impossible, create a very out-of-the-box artwork or dance like we can bend every single bone of our bodies, we will be the next Internet sensation. There is nothing wrong to be recognized for what we do best but, to believe that our talents are only worth of popularity and acknowledgment is something to deeply and honestly contemplate about.

How do we express our gifts?

For sure, all of us have gifts, have something to offer to the world, but how do we express them in today’s world? Tiger Singleton started his CMSM episode on Self-expression in Today World by asking,

“It is an important recognition to ask yourself in your expression, ‘What are you singing to?’ In your service, ‘What are you serving? What are you giving and on behalf of what?’” (T.S. 2019)

Even if it seems instant popularity and millions of likes are the reasons to express ourselves, we can’t rely on such belief alone. Better yet, we can’t continue to believe it is the sole purpose of our abilities. Tiger beautifully reminds us about expressing ourselves through this quote,

“It is about God…about life itself. It about this miracle of being. Everything that happens, whether it is a bird singing, whether it is a storm, everything is in service to the truth so that, life can be life…

Don’t take credit…

If you have gifts, talents, inspirations, all of these lovely things that move through you, what do you think are they in service to? Why is that even there? Is that about you? No. Did you decide to have your talents and your gifts or did you discover them? Did you discover what was already inside? You didn’t even do that and you want to take credit for it? No, no, no… All of these things in the inside ask from a place of sincerity regardless of what color they are. It is simply life asking for life to be life… Whatever flows thru you, life is asking for your sincerity, for your heart, for your confusion, for your fear.” (T.S. 2019)

Gifts are extended from God to us, then from us to the world….

He adds that our gifts and talents are extended from God to us so, we can extend them to the world, give them back to life and to Him. So, we can’t take them personally and take credit for what are extended to us. We don’t need to think we have talents to be famous, rich, accepted and so on. Even if we believe we haven’t discovered a special ability, we are already accepted by life itself. Who we are, the nature of ourselves are enough and we are already contributing to the cycle of life the moment we were born.

So, what is there to be afraid of in expressing ourselves? A possibility is we constantly believe in the voice telling us we are not skillful enough, not the best, it is not okay to be uniquely different and so on. It can be the ego talking but Tiger encourages us to simply observe the ego-talk rather than condemn or judge it. As he puts it, our ego is also giving us the chance to “draw you nearer to the sacred in such a way through your heart and thru your eyes, you can observe the expression of the ego with tremendous love and compassion. You can acknowledge any disturbance is an innocent misunderstanding” (T.S. 2019).

If there is a sole purpose to our gifts and talents, it is for us to express our most sincere being, to communicate who we truly are. They are within us, so our nature within, we can share with others. Then, life continues to flow naturally. Tiger describes, “Expressing ourselves in today’s world is an opportunity to just let life flow” (T.S., 2019).

Just express who we are thru your talents blessed to us….

The best we can do is to stay true to who we are and express it thru the talents blessed to us. If there’s something holding us back or disturbing our flow, we can honestly ask ourselves what makes us afraid of expressing our true self. Then, see how it plays out. When there are those who can’t accept us, we can let go of them while we continue to share our sincerity.

Let life be and be who you are.
